It is that time of year again, and the Bruins are prepping for their Winter Homecoming at Riverbank High School. The 2015 edition means a week filled with fun lunchtime activities, spirit days, a dodgeball game, the royal court, and the Homecoming game, coming up Friday against Ripon Christian.

This year’s theme is “Bruins 90’s Blast from the Past” and each class has chosen a theme for Homecoming Week. This past Friday, Jan. 30, the Leadership Class under the direction of Adam Erro, Activities Director and English teacher, organized a Fashion Show during lunchtime in the quad where students received an example of what to wear this week to show their participation.

Each class will earn Spirit Day points for their participation during Homecoming Week by wearing outer apparel that is appropriate for the theme or color for that day.

The freshmen chose a theme of the Little Rascals where students wore pajamas, their favorite kid clothing, or Monday’s spirit colors of brown and red. Students participated in an obstacle course that was held during lunch.

Tuesday’s theme was the Parent Trap which sophomores selected along with dressing like twins or wearing spirit colors of purple and green. The lunch time activity selected was a three legged race.

Today, Wednesday, students will be wearing baseball attire inspired by the Sandlot or they can show their spirit by wearing blue and white which was selected by the juniors. At 5:30 p.m. in the Bruin Gym there will be a dodgeball game matching up seniors and freshmen versus juniors and sophomores; seniors versus juniors; and staff versus students. The Homecoming King will also be crowned at the end of the game. King candidates this year are Oscar Ortiz, John Obregon, Ylii Lopez, Bobby Campbell and Vincent Meras.

The seniors chose Space Jam as a theme for Thursday and would like to see students wearing basketball gear or bright, multicolored neon. The planned lunch time activity is a friendly game of balloon basketball.

The final day of Homecoming Week is Friday, Feb. 6 where students are asked to show their Bruin Pride by wearing maroon and silver to show their support for the basketball team. All three Bruin teams will play Ripon Christian for the Homecoming game. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime at the varsity game that starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Fauria Gym. This year’s Homecoming Queen candidates are Monica Lopez, Daisy Nunez, Olivia Luu, Jassmine Vigil and Lily Garcia.

The freshmen play at 4:30 p.m. and junior varsity plays at 6 p.m.

Festivities during the day will include a dance competition at lunch and an afternoon rally.
