Outdoor Adventure Camp wrapped up on Friday, June 20 after a weeklong schedule of crafts, outdoor activities, games, and much more. The camp started on Monday, June 16 for youngsters between the ages of 6 and 12 years old, held at Jacob Myers Park from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The kids brought their own sack lunches and received a bright orange camp T-shirt.
The first day the campers decorated painter’s caps and water bottle holders which they kept and used throughout the week. There were several crafts that the kids enjoyed all week like rock painting, making a bear door hanger, creating a necklace with Indian beads, water color art, and artistically coloring a wind chime, just to name a few.
During camp the outdoor adventurers experienced a hike on the back trails and along the river at the park as well as activities like a friendly game of kick ball, Frisbee, potato sack races, a scavenger hunt, baseball, water balloons, sponge bucket relay, and they also practiced for a talent show that they performed on the final day of camp.
They had an ice block challenge where each youngster would stand on an ice block and see who could stay on the longest.
The days were filled with some free play that let the campers engage in their favorite activity, cleanup at the end of each day, contests, relays, games, and much more.
A few days during the week the Parks and Recreation staff, Jackie Hernandez and Joye Thompson, would treat the camp goers to a barbecue.
On Friday, the last day of camp, the campers hosted a talent show for family and friends that included a few dance numbers, a pogo stick jumper, a scientist team of brothers with an experiment to share, a comedy act and a few other performances.
The summer camps have been offered to the Riverbank community for several years and have included some overnight stays in the park for a campout in previous years.
There are other camps that will be staged during the summer, including the Mini Outdoor Adventure Camp, Intermediate Skateboard Camp, Cheerleading Camp, Fencing Camp, Olympic Tae Kwon Do Camp, Science Camp, and Games Galore Camp.
