An Oakdale woman died as a result of injuries sustained in an Oct. 20 crash, the Wednesday collision at Parker Road, west of Wellsford Road in Modesto.

About 7:20 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received a call of a traffic collision on Parker Road, just west of Wellsford. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and found two vehicles, both with major damage.

The driver of a Toyota SUV, identified as Olga Bentulan, 64, of Oakdale was transported to Memorial Medical Center and later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of a Ford pick-up, a 31-year-old man from Waterford, sustained minor injuries but declined treatment. A passenger in the Ford, a one-year-old boy who was restrained in an appropriate child safety seat, was not injured.

According to the CHP report, the Waterford man was westbound on Parker Road, west of Wellsford while Bentulan was driving her 2002 Toyota eastbound on Parker Road, approaching Wellsford. The vehicles collided head on and the Toyota left the south road edge following the initial impact, then struck a barbed wire fence before coming to rest. The Ford came to rest in the roadway. All involved were wearing their seatbelts, authorities said, and drugs or alcohol did not appear to have contributed to the collision.

Parker Road was closed temporarily between Church Street and Wellsford and the CHP was continuing the investigation of the specifics leading up to the collision.
