Young baseball and softball players in Riverbank celebrated the end of their 2021 seasons over the weekend.

A Sunday ‘Closing Day’ celebration at the California Avenue ball park included a variety of festivities on June 27, despite the threatened high temperatures. Activities included a number of vendor booths of all kinds which lined the outfield grass. It also included a number of food trucks to fuel the afternoon’s fun. Another highlight was a fundraising raffle and also included was a challenging cornhole tournament.

Organizers noted that, despite COVID, they managed to field 13 teams, with over 150 players in their March to May RYBSA, Riverbank Youth Baseball Softball Association, season. In 2020, the pandemic struck just as the season was about to begin so they were not able to play any games. This year, said officials, they had the opportunity and next year should see a return to a full schedule.
