The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area. Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 28 through Monday, Aug. 3.
SUNDAY, AUG. 2
1:15 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29, Battalion 5, Oak Valley Ambulance ad PHI Med 41 responded to reports of a motorcycle accident at 26 Mile Road and Sonora Road. Crews arrived on scene and located a crashed motorcycle with no one around it. A ground search started for the immediate area as well as from the air to locate any potential patients. The area was clear and no patient found. CHP investigating.
SATURDAY, AUG. 1
No time listed – Training was conducted on operating Type I engines. Crews familiarized themselves with Engine 28 that is operated in Oakdale.
1:05 p.m. – Crews from Modesto Fire Department, and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District responded to the 5000 block of Alton Court in Riverbank for the report of a working structure fire. Crews arrived on scene to find light smoke showing from the side yard of a residence. Upon further investigation crews found a fire had started on the side of a residence and was being extinguished by the residents. The majority of the damage was limited to the exterior of the residence. The fire cause is under investigation.
1:05 p.m. – Crews from Modesto Fire Department, Ceres Fire Department, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District and Hughson Fire District responded to Tuolumne River Regional Park for the report of a vegetation fire. Crews arrived on scene to find multiple vegetation fires burning in the area east of Tioga Drive. The fire was contained to 1½ acres. There was extensive overhaul due to the fire getting into the trees. Crews from Modesto urban forestry were called to fall a large oak tree with fire burning inside. The crews were on scene for over 5 hours.
3:37 p.m. – Crews from Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District responded to a vehicle accident on Warnerville Road and Tim Bell Road near the community of Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene to find a vehicle off the roadway with one occupant. The occupant was evaluated on scene and transported to a local hospital after suffering a medical emergency.
4:19 p.m. – Crews from Modesto Fire Department, CAL FIRE and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District responded to the La Grange off road park for the report of a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find a quad/ATV versus a vehicle. The driver of the quad suffered major injuries. They were stabilized on scene then flown to a local hospital by air ambulance. CHP is investigating.
THURSDAY, JULY 30
2:14 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass/Water Tender 27, Grass 30, BC5 and Cal Fire TCU responded to a reported vegetation fire on Highway 108 east of Oakdale near Stearns Road. Brush 28 arrived to find three-quarters of an acre burning and crews quickly contained the fire. While conducting mop-up operations, a spot fire developed east of the original fire and burned approximately 2 acres.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 29
5:12 p.m. – Engines 26, 27, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 responded to a potential structure fire on Pedersen Road in Oakdale; neighbors reported smoke coming from a neighbor’s home. Crews arrived, then determined that the source of the smoke was from a small cooking fire that did not extend into the structure.
TUESDAY, JULY 28
No time listed – Modesto, Ceres, Stanislaus, and Turlock fire crews rotated through the MCST Training Facility on Service Road today to participate in a PCR writing skills course.
11:03 a.m. – Modesto, Stanislaus, and Salida crews responded to assist Escalon Fire with a vegetation fire located along the Santa Fe Railroad right of way, just north of Riverbank. Crews assisted with containing then mopping up a roadside grass fire.
10:22 p.m. – Water Rescues 26, 28, Engine 27, and Battalion 5, were dispatched to search for subjects who were reported missing after departing from Jacob Myers Park on the Stanislaus River around 4 p.m. The missing persons were quickly located by family/friends; responding resources were cancelled.
