Fire Calls 9-2-20

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area. Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 25 through Monday, Aug. 31. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, AUG. 31

3:40 a.m. – Fire Station 30 was alerted by a citizen of a structure on fire near Valley Home Road and Schultz Road in the community of Valley Home. Engine 30 requested a residential working structure fire response for the incident (Engine 28, Engine/WT 27, Engine 7, Stanislaus Engine 26, Stanislaus Quint 22, Escalon WT 1-1, BC5 and BC2). Engine 30 arrived to find smoke and flames showing from a residence and initiated a defensive fire attack. Crews transitioned into an offensive mode performing fire attack and search. One subject was removed from the residence and transported in critical condition to a local emergency room; he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident is currently under investigation by the FIU.

No time listed: Modesto Battalion 5 and Engine 28 attended a debriefing with Oakdale PD for an incident in Oakdale that occurred over a week ago.

Modesto has a Battalion Chief and Captain assigned as Strike Team Leader and Trainee at the Walbridge Fire in Sonoma County. They were assigned to a 24-hour shift doing mop up and patrol.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 30

7 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a reported ATV accident in rural Oakdale. Crews located and treated one patient with moderate injuries. The patient was flown via helicopter to a local emergency room.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 28

The Technical Rescue Team trained on tower rescue techniques today at the RFTC.

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 27

Crews took boats 28 and 29 to Woodward Reservoir today for training and to ensure that recent repairs to the boats were sufficient.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 26

7:29 a.m. – Modesto Brush 28, Engine 27, Battalion 5, Stanislaus Grass 26, Brush 22, Battalion 2 responded to a vegetation fire behind the mobile home park in the 900 block of Old Stockton Road in Oakdale. Crews found approximately one-eighth of an acre of heavy vegetation on fire. Access to the fire was made through the fence at the mobile home park. Crews were committed on scene for over two hours.

12:35 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27 responded to reports of a tractor on fire in a field in the 11000 block of Rodden Road in Oakdale. Battalion 5 responded and requested Modesto Brush 29 and Stanislaus Grass 26. Engine 27 arrived on scene and contained the fire to just the tractor. The balance of the response was cancelled. The owner was completing improvements to the property when the tractor caught fire. No injuries were reported. There was no extension to the wildland.

6:17 p.m. – Modesto Engine 29 responded to a person down approximately one quarter mile East of the covered bridge along the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry. Due to access issues, Battalion 5 responded and requested Engine 27 and 28 to assist. Engine 29 and an Oak Valley Ambulance crew hiked in to where the patient was located. The patient was uninjured but suffering from exhaustion after being outside in the heat and swimming in the river. Crews prepped to extricate the patient by carrying out with stokes basket. They were able to assist the patient to a bluff where BC5’s vehicle could make access. The patient was loaded into the battalion truck and driven out to the ambulance at the covered bridge.
