On Friday, May 27 the California Legislature reached its Constitutional “House of Origin” deadline; meaning that any Assembly Bill (AB) not able to pass out of the State Assembly will be considered dead. The same goes for any Senate Bill (SB) that was not able to pass out of the State Senate by Friday’s deadline.

“This year I was able to pass six bills over to the Senate. We are one step closer to getting those bills to the Governor’s desk” said Assemblyman Heath Flora. “Being in the minority party makes it incredibly difficult to pass major legislation and we’re proud of what we were able to accomplish with the bills that we’ll now be working through the Senate process.”

AB 2037 (Lead Author) – Removes the requirement that any facility with a bar or sells alcohol cannot serve as a polling location. Removing this requirement will allow Veteran and other social halls to serve as polling locations in future elections.

AB 2101 (Lead Author) – Will establish Whole Orchard Recycling (WOR) as a project type eligible for the registry found under SB 27 (2021).

AB 1644 (Lead Author) – Will exempt wildfire projects from difficult labor requirements in the California Jobs Plan Act 2021.

AB 2119 (Lead Author) – Will establish a pilot program for Veteran Medical Foster Homes, which will offer affordable community-based support to Veterans who wish to spend their retirement in a home-like setting.

AB 2107 and AB 1892 also passed over to the Senate before the deadline.
