FLYING THE COLORS
FLAGS pix 9-19.jpg

American flags lined Atchison/Highway 108 from one end of downtown Riverbank to the other in recognition of the Sept. 11 attacks last Tuesday. Remembrances took place all across the country that day with memorials large and small. But local social media was abuzz with complaints that many if not most classrooms in the area seemed not to take notice of the event. There was no mention nor moment of silence at that evening’s city council meeting. It has been 17 years since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The first few years afterwards, the city hosted a community wide remembrance at the memorial wall in front of the Riverbank Community Center.
