The Sonora Writers Group and Here’s the Scoop Books and Gifts in Jamestown are hosting a Tea Party on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., at Here’s the Scoop Books & Gifts, 18178 Main St., Jamestown. The Friends and Family Tea Party is free and open to the public. Along with tea for the guests a variety of authentic English tea treats will be served. The featured guest will be Sue Erickson, author of “Tea with the King.” Erickson will be discussing how to make the perfect pot of tea, answering questions and reading from her book.
Erickson is a native of San Francisco. She attended San Jose State College. Since then, she has worked for a variety of companies including a college publisher, a book fair company, Sunset Magazine and the University of the Pacific as assistant to the dean of the Benerd School of Education. Her fascination with tea began when she once hosted an afternoon tea for all the school staff and offered occasional afternoon tea breaks, serving tea and treats for the staff.
During her tenure at the University, she was introduced to, Set to a Tea, a direct sales home tea party business. She became a representative for them. Her job was to host tea tastings in peoples’ homes and teach people about tea and how to properly prepare it. She served tea to guests at home tea parties and also hosted many of her own private tea parties. Sue became known as “the tea lady.”
Tea with the King is her first book. After retiring, she started writing devotions based on some of her experiences hosting tea tastings with, Set to a Tea. Her desire was to combine her passion for tea with her passion for the Scriptures. About the same time, she was fortunate to be invited to join a local writers group in Stockton, all of whom encouraged her to complete her project. The book was published in August 2018. The majority of the photos in the book are from her personal collection. Her hope is that her readers will be blessed and encouraged both to drink tea and spend time in God’s Word getting to know Him better.
“One of my favorite things to do is go to an afternoon tea,” said Erickson. “I have been to most of the tea rooms within an hour and a half drive of my home in Stockton. One of my favorite places is Columbia Kate’s Tea House in Columbia. Every day is a good day to have tea and it is always tea time with me.”
Erickson’s book, Tea with the King, can be found at Here’s the Scoop Books & Gifts, Amazon and Columbia Kates. For more information, call the Sonora writers Group at 209-743-8097.
