Six visitors from Fuyang, Riverbank's sister city in China, arrived in town on short notice on Thursday.

The delegation consisted primarily of educators led by a middle school principal, plus a cultural expert and a newspaper reporter, said City Manager Rich Holmer.

So city officials organized a tour of the new Mesa Verde Elementary School and took the visitors to lunch at the Red Robin Restaurant in the Crossroads Shopping Center.

"Of course they loved our mural and the girl sitting reading on a globe. They took a hundred pictures of it." Holmer said.

The mural is on the south wall of City Hall North and includes a representation of Fuyang located on China's east coast.

Here in the United States for just six days, the visitors already had been to Washington D.C., Philadelphia and San Francisco and were due to spend two more days in Los Angeles before flying home.

Riverbank delegates may try to pay a return visit to Fuyang in April, Holmer added.
