Prior to the commencement of the community town hall on Sunday in Riverbank, Congressman Josh Harder took some time to shake hands and mingle with people. VIRGINIA STILL/THE NEWS

A huge crowd gathered for a Town Hall held this past Sunday, Aug. 4 at Saint Frances of Rome Church in Riverbank that was held in both English and Spanish, hosted by Father Misael Avila. The church hall was filled with people from the community that were on hand to meet Congressman Josh Harder and ask him some poignant questions on homelessness, immigration, the H2A Bill, I.C.E. (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and the mass shootings that have occurred recently across the country.

Guests were greeted by Father Avila and prior to the discussion Rep. Harder also greeted people, shook some hands and took some selfies. There were tables set up so that guests could check-in, register to vote, and gain information from Faith in the Valley as well as enjoy some refreshments.

The hall was filled with curious and interested guests that were not only there for information but many were there seeking assistance on specific issues as well. Among the guests were Mayor Richard O’Brien, Councilmember Cal Campbell and wife Marina, and Councilmember Luis Uribe. The public was invited to attend this community forum so that their voices could be heard and their questions answered.

Look for a full in-depth article regarding the community forum, Harder’s responses, and community reaction in the next issue of the Riverbank News on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
