Hectic Summer Pace Keeps Deputies Busy

The action hasn’t seen a summer slowdown for Riverbank Police Services as officers handled a number of calls this past week including a traffic collision, road rage, DUI, assault with a machete and more.

Deputies were in the 2200 Block of Claribel Road on a separate incident when they contacted a 19-year-old who had multiple warrants out of Tracy on Monday, July 12 at about 1 a.m. He was transported and booked at the Public Safety Center without incident.

On Sunday, July 11 around 3:30 a.m. deputies observed a vehicle driving with no lights near Patterson Road and Callander Avenue. A DUI investigation was conducted and the 18-year-old driver was cited for driving under the influence.

Around 8 a.m. on Sunday, deputies were dispatched to the 3300 block of Sierra Street the report of a subject carrying a knife. Deputies arrived on scene and the 37-year-old man was contacted and booked without incident for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

On Sunday evening around 8:45 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a traffic collision with major injuries involving a motorcyclist and a passenger vehicle. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital in serious condition and M.A.I.T (California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) was called to the scene to conduct the collision investigation.

Deputies were dispatched at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 10 regarding a female that was causing issues to the residents in the 3700 block of Sierra Avenue. When deputies arrived on scene, they observed a woman identified as Amelia Quals emerging from the side yard of a residence holding a machete. Quals raised the machete above her head and began threatening deputies. Deputies warned her multiple times to drop the machete, but she continued to menace and threaten them. When Quals kicked her sandals off, it appeared as if she was going to rush the deputies. Deputies dispatched less lethal rounds in order to persuade Quals to drop the machete, which she did. She was taken into custody and transported to Doctors Medical Center to get medically cleared. She was then transported to the County Jail where she was booked for multiple misdemeanor and felony charges.

On Friday, July 9 deputies were dispatched to a restraining order violation and contacted the reporting party in the 6200 block of Jackson Avenue. Deputies also made contact with the person violating the order and transported him to jail without further incident.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, deputies were dispatched to a property hit and run. A red Tahoe struck a parked vehicle causing minor damage and fled the area. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

During the late morning hours on Wednesday, July 7, a road rage incident unfolded in the 2600 block of Patterson Road. After a disagreement, both vehicles pulled over and one of the drivers pulled a baseball bat out. The other driver reciprocated and drew a firearm. Both subjects got back in their vehicles and left the area. This incident is still under investigation.

On Wednesday during the middle of the day, deputies responded to a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Atchison and Eighth streets. Deputies determined there were no injuries and facilitated a name exchange without further incident.
