Homecoming Festivities Take Center Stage At Riverbank

It's going to be a 'Pixar Perfect' Homecoming for Riverbank High School.

That's the theme for this week, as the school winds its way through several days of activities culminating with the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King on Friday night when the Bruins host Modesto Christian. Powder Puff competition is tonight, Oct. 10 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Kick off for Homecoming was on Friday at lunchtime in the quad, with music, dancing, food, fun, a fashion show to preview the dress up days and the announcement of the King and Queen candidates.

In the running for Homecoming King are Cecil Arias, Thomas Castillo, Joaquin Felix, Armando Manriquez and Chad Oliver. Homecoming Queen candidates are Janelle Castro, Erika Cisneros, Leticia Herrera, Margarita Manriquez and Vanessa Vargas.

Students are enjoying dress up days and activities, building up spirit points this week and are also putting finishing touches on the Homecoming floats that will be unveiled in the Friday afternoon parade, in the downtown area, forming up about 3:15 p.m.

All faculty members are also encouraged to participate in the 'theme' days.

Pixar movies are the theme, with Monday celebrated with Finding Nemo and beach attire. Tuesday was Up! day with the theme of Scouts and today is Monsters, Inc. day with pajamas the suggested attire. Thursday will be The Incredibles with a superhero theme and Friday will be the traditional Bruin Pride day with colors of maroon and silver.

Homecoming floats will be judged by community members and the parade starts at Seventh and Santa Fe. The Friday night competition starts with the JV team against Modesto Christian at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m.

Halftime festivities of the varsity game are scheduled to include crowning of the King and Queen, class float winner announcement and the Spirit Bear will be awarded to the class with the most spirit points.
