Interim RUSD Leaders Have Been Appointed
RUSD

The Riverbank Unified School District’s 2018-19 school year has come to a close. There are some big changes in the district, however, with the naming of a new Interim District Superintendent, Craig Rydquist and an interim Principal at Riverbank High School, Greg Diaz.

Members of the Riverbank School Board met in closed session and discussed options for an interim superintendent, to replace Dr. Daryl Camp, who is leaving the district. They appointed Rydquist to the post and will continue contract negotiations and look to make a formal appointment at a future regular meeting of the board.

RUSD officials stated that Rydquist has served as interim superintendent and the Deputy/Associate Superintendent, Chief Human Resources Official for the Modesto City Schools. He spent eight and a half years teaching at La Loma Junior High, Beyer and Downey high schools as well as eight and a half years as a principal or assistant principal at a number of junior high and high schools. He moved into central office administration where he spent four years as the Director, Assessment and Evaluation and six years as an Associate Superintendent, Educational Services.

Rydquist has a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Chapman University, a single subject credential from the University of the Pacific, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UCLA. He is an alumnus of Modesto’s Beyer High School.

Diaz has been appointed the interim principal at Riverbank High School, with Dr. Sean Richey vacating that post. He spent this past school year as the Vice Principal at Cardozo Middle School. According to RUSD officials, he will provide guidance to Riverbank High during the transition period and will focus on having a smooth opening to the 2019-20 school year. While Diaz is supporting Riverbank High School, the District will look for a substitute administrator for Cardozo Middle School.

The following teachers and staff have also retired: Lupe Cota, Tina Hinton, Susan Morgan, Deanna Powell, Kristi Santos, Martin Ugalde, Jackie George, Martha Lopez, Charlyn Piper, Dana Rapisura, Patricia Trujillo West, and Braselina Williams.

The 2019-20 school year will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the District Office, 6715 Seventh St., in Riverbank.
