International Travel Guideline Changes Are Now In Effect
air
For international travel, airlines – as of Jan. 26 – must confirm a negative COVID test result or proof of recent recovery for all passengers prior to boarding.

If you are planning to travel internationally, you should be aware that changes have been made to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel mandates.

Effective as of Tuesday, Jan. 26, the CDC is requiring all international air passengers entering the United States (including U.S. citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) to present a negative COVID-19 test, taken within three calendar days of departure, or proof of recovery from the virus within the last 90 days. Airlines must confirm the negative test result or proof of recent recovery for all passengers prior to boarding. Airlines must deny boarding of passengers who do not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery.

Alaska, American, jetBlue, Southwest, Aeromexico and Volaris offer nonstop flights between Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and destinations throughout Mexico. Visit their website or contact the airlines for more information about flights https://sacramento.aero/smf/flight-and-travel/airlines.

Those planning to fly are urged to contact their airline for more information about what documentation each specific airline will require.

Travelers are also encouraged to contact their accommodations for more specific information about individual locations.

You can also see CDC’s FAQ for answers to questions about the new international air travel requirement for proof of negative COVID-19 test or recovery from COVID-19 for all air passengers arriving in the United States.

Travelers should be aware of State and CDC travel guidelines before making the decision to travel. SMF reminds everyone to travel safely and take extra precautions when at the airport. Passengers are required to wear face coverings and social distance whenever possible throughout their journey. As always, it is recommended travelers arrive early in anticipation of additional security screenings.
