The 'unofficial end' of summer comes this weekend, and Monday, Sept. 3 will be celebrated as Labor Day with multiple closures.
There will be no school in the Riverbank Unified School District that day, no mail delivery, banks and businesses have the option of closing. The News office will also be closed, along with all government buildings and services.
Local authorities are urging caution on the highways, as many motorists will likely be out for a final weekend of summer fun. Traffic is predicted to be heavy and the Stanislaus River at Jacob Myers Park is expected to be a favorite destination. As always, police and emergency services personnel advise caution when driving and on the waterways and remind people to not drink and drive and to always use life jackets when on the water.
