Landscape Changing At Downtown Corner
712 Del Rio
Very little remains of the former Del Rio complex in downtown Riverbank, but future plans anticipate stores and residential units to occupy the space. Ric McGinnis/The News

A little dirt, piles of broken concrete, some rebar, and a few utility pipes are what remain as demolition of the Del Rio Theatre complex continued this past week in downtown Riverbank.

What used to be a group of storefronts at the corner of Third and Atchison streets, a restaurant/bar, and of course, the theatre, has mostly been torn down and hauled off. Just a bit of the theatre foundation remained as of last Friday, July 7. When the work of clearing away all the debris is done, the owner is planning to build a four-story replacement. The project calls for storefronts on the ground floor, and three stories of residential units above.
