The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) partnered with Pacific Southwest Container and E & J Gallo to coordinate “Manufacturing Day” for Leadership Academy students on Jan. 14. Students started the day at Pacific Southwest Container with a facilities tour and learned about the specialized careers required to manufacture packaging for various retail brands. After their time at Pacific Southwest Container, students traveled back to SCOE, where they enjoyed a line-up of virtual presentations facilitated by E & J Gallo. Students learned about the history of the local organization and participated in a hands-on activity that put fundamental manufacturing principles into practice. The students also learned about Gallo’s Scholarship and Internship Program and had the opportunity to talk with a panel of professionals serving in various careers within the organization.
Students are now looking forward to their next class, “Media Day,” coming up on Friday, Feb. 4, when they will hear from a variety of professionals with experience in the field of media. Students will learn about digital and print media, including local news, advertising, and lifestyle publications. The class will also include a panel of professionals with experience in communications careers and learn some practical skills for effective messaging. Students will also learn about social media safety and how to determine the credibility of a source.
The class will conclude with a tour of the Arts, Humanities & Communications Division at Modesto Junior College.
