Let Christmas Shine - Deadline Looms For Holiday Festival

Returning for its 44th year, the Riverbank Christmas Parade will wind its way through the downtown area on Saturday, Nov. 24 as part of Riverbank's second annual Christmas Festival, which runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. that day. The event is sponsored by the City of Riverbank, Riverbank Pizza Plus and Riverbank Lion's Club.

Beginning at 2 p.m., the annual Holiday Craft Faire will be held at Plaza del Rio along the parade route. Crafts and refreshments will be available throughout the day along with live entertainment and fun for the whole family.

At 5:30 p.m., the annual Christmas Parade will begin at the Riverbank Community Center and follow a route through downtown and past the judging stand across from the Plaza. Many of the downtown businesses will participating in a window decorating competition.

"Last year's parade drew several thousand spectators and we plan to throw in a few surprises for this year's event" said event chairperson, Scott Pettit.

At 6:30 p.m., Santa will arrive in the Plaza for free photos with the kids and to help light the Community Christmas Tree. Alan Sanchez from Good Day Sacramento is scheduled to be on hand to serve as emcee for the tree lighting.

Food and toy donations will be accepted by the Riverbank Cares committee.

Organizers said the parade, tree lighting and craft faire is a great way to kick off the holiday season, hosted the Saturday after Thanksgiving, to get everyone into a festive mood.
