A late afternoon hit and run accident resulted in one arrest and multiple injuries on Nov. 28.

The man arrested in connection with the case has a court appearance scheduled for this week.

Riverbank Police Services deputies responded to a reported hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Patterson Road and Snedigar Road just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28. According to authorities, when deputies arrived, they learned that 29-year-old Felix Wilkerson was driving in excess of 75 MPH on Patterson Road when he struck a vehicle at the intersection and then fled the scene.

Wilkerson was followed by alert citizens from Patterson Road to Eleanor Avenue where he drove off the roadway and into a pasture. The citizens were able to stop Wilkerson and keep him from leaving until deputies arrived.

A woman and two children were in the vehicle struck by Wilkerson. One of the passengers was a four-year-old girl, and she was transported by medical helicopter to the emergency room of a nearby hospital with a head injury. The woman and second child in the vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment. As of press time there were no updates available on the condition of the four-year-old child.

The helicopter landed at nearby Riverbank High School, with the child transported to that location by ambulance from the accident scene and then flown to a hospital for treatment. The landing caused a delay in a scheduled soccer game at the high school football field with the helicopter landing there for the emergency medical transport.

Wilkerson was arrested for felony hit and run and reckless driving. He was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on $100,000 bail and was due for an appearance in court on Dec. 6.
