Board members and coaches of the Riverbank Youth Baseball Softball Association held a special, last of the year, early registration day last week at Pizza Plus in downtown. Castleberg Park Snack Bar is the usual location, but rain was expected last week, so it got moved indoors.

And it was the last of the Early Bird Discount sign-ups for the upcoming 2020 season.

Registration will be full price at the final registration days, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10 and 11. Friday’s schedule will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. while Saturday’s will be from noon to 3 p.m., at the snack bar.

Opening Day, and Picture Day, for the season is set for Saturday, March 14. Teams usually meet at 8 a.m. at the Community Center on Santa Fe Street and march up Eighth Street to Castleberg Park. Then the first pitch is celebrated and teams take their photos for the season. Last year the parade was rained out, and everything else was held under the gazebo at the park. The 2020 Opening Day is set for March 14. Closing Ceremonies are set for 9 a.m. May 16.

For baseball, the teams break down by age groups. Rookies are ages 7 and 8, Minors are 9-10, while Majors are 11 and 12 and Pony League players are 13-15.

On the softball side, the groups are 8 and Under, 10U, 12U and 14U.

Evaluation tryouts are set for Saturday, Feb. 8 beginning at 11:45 a.m. for the Rookies, 1:15 p.m. for Minors, and 2:30 p.m. for Majors.

Pony League evaluations will be set after the high school schedules are announced.
