A few classic cars spilled over from the week-long local cruise celebration in nearby Modesto to make a stop at the Farmers Market in downtown Riverbank on Wednesday.
Last week’s music featured a jazz combo, while tonight it’ll be ukulele sounds from the Fun Strummers. It’ll also be Senior Coupons and Safety Night. The featured Marvel movie will be The Incredible Hulk, continuing the weekly superhero series after dark.
A surprise guest at the June 8 gathering was Freddy the Fish, a new mascot for the City of Riverbank. He arrived to remind children (and their parents) about best practices of household activities and how to protect storm water runoff from becoming contaminated.
Tonight, June 15, the Area Agency on Aging will be distributing special coupons for seniors at Farmers Market.
Shoppers who are 60 years of age or older and have a limited income ($1,815 for one, or $2,556 for two people) are eligible for the program. The coupons will be distributed on a first come-first served basis while supplies last. They can only be used at a Certified Farmers Market, which includes Riverbank; one booklet per person per year.
Each booklet contains $20 in coupons to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs or honey. More information can be obtained from the Senior Information Line at 209-558-8698 or toll free at 1-800-510-2020.
A bounce house for the kids is a regular feature, along with other fun activities sponsored by the City Parks and Recreation Department.
Coming up at next week’s Farmers Market is the Brad Brown Band providing the musical entertainment, wine tasting and the movie Iron Man II after dark.
The Riverbank Certified Market is held at the Community Center Park each Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and runs through September. The park is next to the Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe, across from Cardozo Middle School.
The market, Concerts in the Park and Family Night Out is sponsored by the Riverbank Chamber of Commerce.
June 29 features the musical group Totally Frank, a free Let’s Move Zumba Class from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the Marvel movie Thor.
Coming up on Wednesday, July 6, it will be the annual Kids Health and Safety/Bicycle Rodeo Fair for riders 5 through 12 years of age.
The weekly market features fresh food, fruits, nuts and vegetables, commercial vendors and children’s entertainment, along with the music and movies.
