Riverbank High School’s 2016 Homecoming Week is being celebrated all week long with lunchtime activities, dress up spirit days, a powder puff football game, a parade, and on Friday night, the Homecoming football game.

The theme this year for Homecoming 2016 is “Bruins in the Spotlight” which involves popular TV shows like the Rugrats, Greys Anatomy, the Big Bang Theory, and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Friday last week the Leadership Class hosted a Fashion Show during lunch in the quad so that students would have an idea what to wear to school to show their spirit during Homecoming Week as well as introduced the King and Queen candidates. The King candidates are Chris Certuche, Christian Bolanos, Jalen Spikes, Edgar Garcia and Jacob Raper while the Queen candidates are Zaira Romo, Maria Quintero, Mariana Jimenez, Lily Gallagher, and Kimberlin Leon.

The fashion show participants included students from each grade level, freshman through senior.

Monday started the spirit dress up days with the Rugrats inspired theme or wearing pastel colors. On Tuesday students participated by dressing like a doctor or nurse and wore blue and white. Today, Wednesday, students will be sporting red, blue, and yellow colors or dressing like a nerd. On Thursday you may see students wearing neon to show their spirit. Finally on Friday all students are asked to show their Bruin pride by wearing maroon and silver.

Throughout the week there will be lunchtime activities for students to participate in to celebrate Homecoming Week like a mad scientist obstacle course, dance lessons, dance off, and a tug-of-war, to name a few.

There will be a powder puff football game today, Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. as the girls take their turn on the gridiron.

The students will be diligently working on decorating golf carts throughout the week for the homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m., with a rally prior to that. The parade will start at the corner of Seventh Street and Santa Fe Street in front of the Community Center.

Later on Friday evening there will be the Homecoming football game against Brookside Christian with kickoff at 7 p.m., which will include a halftime show and the crowning of new Bruin royalty.
