Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 4.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.74/gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.38/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Modesto during the past week, prices Sunday were 52.2 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 11.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 16.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 41.8 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on June 13 in Modesto have ranged widely over the last five years: $3.26/gallon in 2015, $3.96 in 2014, $3.82 in 2013, $4.01 in 2012 and $3.85/gallon in 2011.

“Gasoline prices have continued a mild run higher across much of the country, though in the Great Lakes, gas prices have been on a tear,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com. “In the last month, no one has seen close to the pain exhibited throughout the Midwest. Average gas prices in Michigan are up 50 cents in the last month, followed by Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, who have seen a jump of over 30 cents in a month, largely at the hands of various refinery woes and insatiable demand for gasoline. However, as kinks are ironed out and production of gasoline ramps up, we expect gasoline prices to cool in the next few weeks in much of the country, barring any unforeseeable events. We’re sticking by our January forecast that told of an average U.S. gas price of $2.41/gallon during the summer driving season.”

Areas nearby Modesto and their current gas price climate include:

Stockton - $2.75/gallon, up 2.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.73; Oakland - $2.88, up 3.0 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.85; and San Jose - $2.91, up 2.0 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.89/gallon.
