The hot weather and the start of local schools earlier in the day may have put a damper on the Concerts in the Park/Family Night Out on Aug. 10, sponsored by the Riverbank Chamber of Commerce in downtown Riverbank. Attendance was sparse and no one stayed for the free Marvel Studios movie, which was slated at dusk but ultimately canceled due to lack of an audience.

The Rob Hill Band returned to the park with their five-piece jazz combo on the stage, while the winners of the Audience Favorite competition amongst local classic car owners were awarded last Wednesday.

There were 35 cars competing for the title, with trophies and certificates awarded to the top three owners by the Chamber’s Garnette Martin.

A pair of Modesto residents finished first and second in the voting, with an Escalon car coming in at third place.

Paris Lake received first place honors, with Andy Rodrigues coming in second. Charles Bumgarner, of Escalon, placed third in the voting for the audience favorites.

Concerts in the Park and Family Night Out continue this evening, Aug. 17, running from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Center Park.

Singer Rich Olds is expected to return and the Marvel movie Ant Man is set to be shown after dark. All activities are free, but vendors provide food for sale and local growers bring their farm-fresh fruits and vegetables to sell as well.
