Summer is nearly over as Riverbank students prepare to return to campus for the start of classes and the Farmers Market will be winding down.

Last week saw the final edition of the free movie after the market, with the showing of Big Hero 6.

Today’s market activities, Aug. 5, will include music from singer Bob Hopper and a free cooking demonstration from the folks at Perry and Sons, a family farm owned and operated in Manteca since 1925.

They are one of the largest shippers and handlers of seedless and regular watermelons, pumpkins and a variety of hard shell squash in the state.

They’ll be sharing delicious watermelon and squash recipes, demonstrating the food preparation.

The Riverbank Certified Farmers Market is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and is held offered each Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Center Park. The cooking demonstration will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. tonight.

The last free movie showing in Riverbank this season will be on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Jacob Myers Park, starting between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., after dark. That movie will be Guardians of the Galaxy, a 2014 film based on the Marvel Comic Book of the same name from 2008. Movies in the Park is sponsored by Friends of Jacob Myers Park, a volunteer organization that assists the city with planning and development of park facilities.
