The California Department of Finance (DOF) has notified the State Legislature on how nearly $1.8 billion from California’s share of the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund will be allocated to counties and cities.

The letter from DOF includes allocations for each city and county in California. The funds will be remitted in phases, with the first allocations each consisting of one-sixth of the total amounts available to each entity. The letter states that first installments will be in August and September, and the third will be sent in October of this year.

Funds will go to cities and counties for homelessness, public health, public safety, and other services to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Section 11.90 of the 2020 Budget Act provides for the expenditure of $9,525,564,744 in federal funds allocated from the Coronavirus Relief Fund in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to support the state’s response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Of these funds, $1,289,065,000 is to be allocated to counties, and $500,000,000 is to be allocated to cities.

Under the plan, Stanislaus County is due to receive a total of $12,834,248 overall while the figures released on Monday show that the City of Riverbank will benefit from a $309,049 allocation.

Receipt of funding is contingent on adherence to federal guidance, the state’s stay-at-home and other health requirements as directed in executive orders, statutes, and all State Department of Public Health orders, directives, and guidance issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
