Detectives Investigate Riverbank Homicide

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s detectives were busy over the weekend investigating a Saturday night, June 18 homicide in the city of Riverbank.

The department reported that Riverbank Police Services deputies were dispatched to the 3800 Block of Atchison Street for the report of a deceased person near the Stanislaus River. When deputies arrived, they found a 43-year-old male deceased in a homeless camp near the river. They identified the victim as Justin Rainwater of Riverbank.

Responding units determined the incident to be suspicious and summoned detectives, who are investigating the death of Rainwater as a homicide. The cause of death will be determined by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

The area was taped off as investigators worked through the night.

On Sunday, June 19, sheriff’s representatives stated there is no suspect information and detectives are asking for anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact them. As of press time no arrest had been made.
