Republicans Ken Vogel and Heath Flora will face a November General Election run-off with the final count in from both Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties covering California’s 12th Assembly District.
In the June 15 edition of The News, it was reported that Flora and challenger Virginia Madueno – former Riverbank mayor – would face each other, however the results reported were only from the final poll of Stanislaus County and did not include the San Joaquin County numbers. The News regrets the error.
With the final results posted from the California Secretary of State, Vogel received 25.7 percent of ballots cast and Flora received 23.2 percent of the vote. Madueno was a close third at 21.2 percent. The 12th Assembly District includes the communities of Oakdale and Riverbank in Stanislaus County as well as Escalon in San Joaquin County. Since no candidate received the 50 percent plus one of the vote required for an outright victory, the top two finishers regardless of party affiliation advance to the November general election.
In the 10th Congressional District race, which also covers portions of both counties, the final tally showed incumbent Jeff Denham receiving 47.8 percent of the vote and challenger Michael Eggman with 27.7 percent. Denham and Eggman will once again face off in the general election as they did in 2014, when Denham garnered 56 percent of the vote.
Among other challengers in the 10th Congressional District, Robert Hodges received 10.2 percent, and Michael Barkley received 14.3 percent of votes cast.
