Audience

The Riverbank Certified Farmers Market is hosted at the Community Center Park each Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and runs through early September. The park is located next to the Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe Street, across from Cardozo Middle School and is sponsored by the Riverbank Chamber of Commerce.

Each week at the Riverbank Farmers Market, a different performer is featured on the ‘stage’ at the Community Center Park. Singers, karaoke performers and bands entertain those attending the market.

This past week, singer Rich C. Olds from Oakdale performed songs from his light rock, classic rock and country repertoire of top 40 hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s charts. Tonight, June 8, the Rob Hill Band is the featured group.

Market goers can also enjoy the free swim at the city pool, adjacent to the park or the kids bounce house on the grass, in addition to food vendors and fresh fruits, vegetables and other displays each week.

Tonight is also scheduled to feature a car show of vintage automobiles and a bounce house for the children.

The hours for the weekly market are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a movie night, shown against the side of the wall of the Community Center after dark.

Meanwhile, the Area Agency on Aging will be distributing special coupons for senior citizens at next week’s Farmers Market, June 15, at the Community Center Park.

Shoppers who are 60 years of age or older and have a limited income ($1,815 for one, or $2,556 for two people) are eligible for the program. The coupons will be distributed on a first come-first served basis while supplies last. They can only be used at a Certified Farmers Market, which includes Riverbank; one booklet per person per year.

Each booklet contains $20 in coupons to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs or honey. Call the Senior Information Line at 209-558-8698 or toll free at 1-800-510-2020.

And finally, it’ll be superheroes to the rescue all summer long, and the action has already begun. The chamber last week began showing the first of a series of action films by Marvel Studios. The films are all based on Marvel Comics superheroes or groups. Last week, the first film was Captain America: The First Avenger, the first in the CA series. Also included in future showings will be the Iron Man series, Thor, Incredible Hulk, the Avengers, Transformers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Tonight’s featured film for June 8 is the original Iron Man.

Coming July 6 will be the annual Kids Health Fair and Safety Bicycle Rodeo. Organizers promise an opportunity to win a bicycle along with other great prizes.

Entrants in the rodeo are encouraged to bring their helmets and bring their own bikes.
