Foothills Chamber Music Fest Continues Tradition

The Sonora Bach Festival will be presenting its 41st festival in the month of October. Concerts are held throughout the county providing the community opportunities to hear fine local and professional musicians of all ages perform the music of Bach and others. The Festival is designed to provide unusual and high-quality performances of classical music for the Central Sierra community performed by guest artists and accomplished local musicians. This year Lisa Grodin guest violinist and violist and member of the Philharmonic Baroque Orchestra and the American Bach Soloists will be featured at the Salon Concert. Will Kiel, Tuolumne County resident and recent San Francisco State graduate will be guest classical guitar soloist at the Youth Concert. The program schedule is as follows:

 

Sunday, Oct. 8, 3 p.m. – The Youth Finalists Concert at the Church of the 49ers in Columbia featuring Central Sierra youth selected from the earlier-held youth auditions. Classical guitarist, Will Kiel will be the invited guest soloist. Admission is $5 with those younger than 18 free.

 

Sunday, Oct. 15, 3 p.m. – The Locals’ Concert will be held at the Church of the 49ers in Columbia featuring a wide of talented singers and instrumentalists. Tickets are $10.

 

Saturday, Oct. 21, 3 p.m. – The Salon Concert, an intimate, afternoon house-concert with guest artist Lisa Grodin of early-music fame. A member of the internationally renowned Philharmonic Baroque orchestra and the American Bach Soloists, Ms. Grodin will feature the violin and viola with accompaniment in a lively and elegant program of Baroque music. Following the concert will be a delightful buffet presented by Chef David Ingram. The concert location, in one of the county’s beautiful homes, will be given at the time of ticket purchase. Admission for concert and buffet is $35 and advance reservations are required.

 

Sunday Oct. 29, 12:30 p.m. – The Bach’s Brunch at Mt. Calvary Church, Sugar Pine, gives the community an opportunity to enjoy a wonderful brunch, again prepared by Chef Ingram, and accompanied by beautiful music in the beautiful forest of the Sierra. The Bach Festival Trio featuring flautists Janet Telford and Sandra Betti and cellist Ralph Retherford will provide music. Tickets are $35 with advance reservations required.
