A football game with a coronation at halftime concluded the Fall Homecoming celebration at Riverbank High School, with events during the week and new royalty selected on Friday night.
While the varsity football team was disappointed with the outcome of their game, 2017 has a new Homecoming King and Queen on the RHS campus.
After daily activities themed for the 1970s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s last week, students wrapped up the week by voting for the new royalty during classes on Friday, Sept. 22, with the recipients crowned during the game.
A brief parade wound its way through downtown Riverbank after school was dismissed in the afternoon.
In the stadium Friday night, the finalist boys and girls were individually introduced, accompanied by a parent or sibling, lining up in front of a packed crowd in the grandstand to await results.
As the names were announced, the winners were crowned and sashed by last year’s royalty, 2016 King Chris Certuche and Queen Lily Gallagher, both graduates now.
Daniel Madueño was crowned King for 2017, with Klarissa Valadez named as Homecoming Queen.
A group of RHS alumni organized a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the school in 1967. It dovetailed with the Homecoming activities of the current student body and featured a variety of fun events throughout the later part of the week.
