The Riverbank Library hosted a birthday party for Dr. Seuss this past week and has been doing so since 2011. According to Librarian Vicky Holt there were about 20 to 30 kids on hand for the celebration that enjoyed the festivities. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

A table was filled with families creating hats and making other crafts. Tossing the rings on the cat in hats hat was a fun game that ended with a prize. Kids and adults had an opportunity to take a picture popping their head into a picture of the cat in the hat. There was a station where goo was made and a baggy for the youngsters to take it home. The tasty and festively decorated birthday cake was a delight for guests to enjoy, coming from the local O’Brien’s Market.

“I think it (party) draws attention to Dr. Seuss,” said Holt. “It is a fun way to promote literacy and everyone loves a party.”

The library offers a monthly Art Lab program for the area youngsters as well and the next one will be held on Tuesday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the Riverbank Library.
