The Riverbank Federated Women’s Club celebrated the sights and sounds of the season over the weekend, hosting their annual holiday luncheon that brought together community members and served as a major fundraiser for the club’s scholarships that are presented to local students at the end of the year.

The club also helps support several class activities at Riverbank and Modesto high schools. Students who live in the Crossroads and southwestern area of Riverbank are in the Sylvan School district and attend high schools in Modesto.

According to member Mary Wolgamot, “it’s an annual event to build community spirit and raise funds. In its current form, presented by the women’s club, it has been going on for six years," she said.

It was originated by Riverbank Women of Action, and after that club went dark, it was continued by the Women’s Club.

The event was staged on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Riverbank Community Center. Tables were decorated with a holiday theme, each by a different hostess, who then invited seven other friends or acquaintances to participate by purchasing a seat at their table, joining them for lunch.

The tables featured a wide variety of decorating styles and all were able to enjoy viewing all tables prior to sitting down to eat the luncheon.

Entertainment for the midday gathering was provided by Riverbank High School band director Joey Aguilar, performing with a wind quintet, two clarinets, flute, bass clarinet and trumpet.

Girls from local scout troops 4264, 3433 and 3509 helped take tickets, serve the food and dessert, and distribute drawing tickets.

There were 14 tables, seating about 100 diners, some hosted by two, some by individuals, with the meal presented by the Howard Training Center.
