Monthly Veterans Advisory Commission Meeting Set

The Veterans Advisory Commission for the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors will host its monthly meeting in Knights Ferry on Monday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the Knights Ferry Community Center, 17601 Main St.

The commission is a seven member board of veterans established by the Board of Supervisors in 2012 to be a liaison between veterans and veterans groups and the county. It was the driving force in creating the Stanislaus Veterans Center in Modesto which opened last April and is considered a one-of-its kind one-stop-shop as all county services which offer support to veterans opened next door in the shopping center at 3500 Coffee Road.

Every month, representatives from local, federal and county agencies along with veterans and veterans advocate groups meet to discuss issues important to county veterans. One of the concerns expected to be discussed is the long delays in expanding the VA’s French Camp clinic which originally was to be a full state of the art veterans hospital. A representative from Congressman Jeff Denham’s office was requested to attend and address the questions and issues brought up at a previous meeting which could not be answered at that time. Representatives from State Assemblyman Heath Flora’s and State Senator Adam Gray’s offices are also expected to attend.

Keynote speaker will be Jack Griffith, CEO of Protecting Soldiers Rights in Modesto. For more information, contact William Johnson at or call 209-896-5057.
