Late word from Riverbank school officials on Monday afternoon, Aug. 31 indicated that a planned home football game set for this Friday night, Sept. 4 will have to be moved. Issues with sod at the newly renovated field prompted the decision and officials are hoping that Big Valley High School in Modesto, the Bruins’ opponent in the contest, will be able to host the game instead.

This summer saw installation of an all-weather track at the high school and accompanying sod in the football field area but concerns about the stability of the sod have forced the athletic officials at the school to delay playing at home. It is hoped the field will be ready in time for a Friday, Sept. 11 scheduled home game.

Contact the main office at the high school, 869-1891, for up to date information regarding the scheduled Sept. 4 game, including start times for JV and varsity and the location.

Information about the upcoming game included in the Sports section this week was written prior to the late Monday afternoon decision and had already gone to press.
