The Human Services Program at Modesto Junior College is sponsoring a Fall 2016 Orientation on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 218 of the Center for Advanced Technologies (CAT) Building on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The public is invited to participate in this free event, which showcases the degrees, certificates of achievement, and skills recognition awards available to students in human services, chemical dependency counseling, psychosocial rehabilitation, and gerontology.

Celebration Center Oakdale Church will host “Hot August Night,” a community outreach event on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church will offer hot dogs, drinks, a dunking booth, pie eating contest, games and music. Earlier that day a church yard sale will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Missionaries for “Go Missions.” Celebration Center Oakdale Church is located at 522 E. E St., Oakdale. Lorina’s Edible Garden on Enterprise Road in Escalon, in cooperation with the Escalon Chamber of Commerce, is again planning a special Farm to Fork Dinner. The event is set for Saturday evening, Aug. 27 starting at 6 p.m., cost is $40 per person and tickets are available by visiting the website, www.lorinasediblegarden.net. There will be fresh produce sourced from local farmers and prepared with herbs from Lorina’s garden, as well as barrel cooked tri tip and chicken. The evening will also feature a selection of fruits and there will be wine, beer and sangria available at the no host bar along with live music. All this will be served up in the family orchards surrounding the vintage barn on the Enterprise Road property.

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. Sierra Repertory Theatre presents ‘The Robber Bridegroom’ at Fallon House Theatre, 11175 Washington St, Columbia from Friday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 25, with various show days and times. Set in eighteenth century Mississippi, the show follows Jamie Lockhart, a rascally robber of the woods, as he courts Rosamund, the only daughter of the richest planter in the country. The proceedings go awry, however, thanks to a case of double-mistaken identity. Throw in an evil stepmother, intent on Rosamund’s demise, and her pea-brained henchman, and you have a rollicking country romp.
