The City of Action has an option for those that want to ease into some type of fitness to start 2017, offering T’ai Chi classes at a new time, scheduled on Monday nights at the Teen Center and Wednesday nights at the Community Center from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $5 per person each night. Stop by either evening and check out this fun, relaxing way to get fit.

It’s the final few days of ice skating in Modesto. Back for a second season, Modesto on Ice has returned to downtown Modesto, running through Sunday, Jan. 22. This family-friendly ice rink offers public sessions, as well as figure skating and hockey lessons. The ice rink is located at 1131 11th Street in downtown Modesto (corner of 11th and K streets). Make plans to visit nearby Delicato Vineyards, as the 29th annual Fine Art Show is being staged there through Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017. Delicato Vineyards is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is on Highway 99, four miles north of Manteca. The public is encouraged to visit the judged art that will be on display throughout the Tasting Room. All art in this show will be available for sale on a first come first sale basis.

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 25. Chocolate Lovers’ Hoedown – a buffet dinner plus community hoedown and chocolate auction is set for Saturday, Feb. 4, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, Manzanita Building, in Sonora. All are encouraged to come ready to eat and dance. The dancing will include line, round, and circle dances, and will be called Rachel Phillips. The buffet dinner will be prepared by Chef Dave Ingram of Chef Dave Cooks! Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at The Mountain Bookshop in the Junction and Schnoog’s. Stanislaus County Clerk/Recorder/Commissioner of Civil Marriages Lee Lundrigan and her staff invite engaged couples to join them as they perform marriage ceremonies on Valentine’s Day at the historic McHenry Mansion located at 906 15th St., in Modesto. “Marriage at the Mansion” offers each couple a romantic experience that will take them back in time. All ceremonies are individualized. Couples must sign up in advance. Ceremonies will start at 9 a.m. and run through 4 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 – Valentine’s Day. Marriage licenses must be purchased and appointments made in advance at the Clerk Recorder’s Office located at 1021 I St., in downtown Modesto. Cost of the license and ceremony is $121 or $126 for confidential marriage licenses. Certified marriage certificates are an additional $15 and must be paid by check. No blood test is required.
