The Escalon American Legion and Legion Riders Post – Chapter 263 will host an Armed Forces Day breakfast on Saturday, May 20 at the Escalon Masonic Hall, 1500 Viking St, Escalon. Hours for breakfast are 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children under 10. All active duty Armed Forces personnel will be provided breakfast at no charge. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, linguica, fruit cup, milk, juice and coffee. All are welcome to attend and support the local American Legion.

Riverbank offers T’ai Chi classes on Monday nights at the Teen Center and Wednesday nights at the Community Center, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., for $5 per person each night. Stop by either evening and check out this fun, relaxing way to get fit.

Join in each week with the local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 10. A special Mother’s Day Tea will be presented at the McHenry Mansion in Modesto on Saturday, May 13. The Tea Luncheons have been a tradition for many local families and, as always, benefit the Mansion Foundation in maintaining this historical location. McHenry Mansion is at 906 15th St., Modesto and two seatings are planned for the May 13 event. The first will be at 11 a.m.; the second at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person; call for reservations at (209) 522-1739 by May 5.

An Officer Appreciation Night is being planned at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Social Hall, 7820 Fox Road, Hughson on Saturday, May 20 starting at 5:30 p.m. The First Baptist church is sponsoring this event, designed to honor all officers retired or active within the county. Guest speaker is Assemblyman Heath Flora and Master of Ceremonies is Sheriff Adam Christianson. Tickets are $45 each, with proceeds going to the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento. There will be drawings and a silent auction throughout the evening. An Armed Forces Day Concert is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 7 p.m. at Ripon Christian High School Performing Arts Center, 435 Maple Ave., Ripon. Voices for the King, a male chorus, will perform inspirational and patriotic music in recognition of national armed service members, local law enforcement and fire department members along with a color guard presentation. This concert is free.
