Riverbank United Methodist Church is hosting an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Church, 6901 Third St., to welcome its new pastor, Pastor Jeff Holder. The community is encouraged to attend the social. Pastor Holder has been assigned to Riverbank United Methodist Church and Community United Methodist Church in Oakdale. Come by and meet Pastor Jeff, see old friends, meet new friends, and enjoy some homemade cobbler a la mode or make a sundae.

The Stanislaus County Library is looking for local published authors to take part in the Eighth Annual Local Author Fair on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place outside on the 16th Street side of the Modesto Library portico. Local authors will have the opportunity to promote their works, as well as sell and sign copies of their publications. There is no cost to participate, but advance registration is required as space is limited. Interested authors should contact Laura Ferrell at (209) 558-7817 to request an event registration form. Completed forms must be received by Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. in order to participate.

Welcome Home Heroes Foundation is hosting a special Patriots Day Blues and Food Truck Festival in Tuolumne on Sunday, Sept. 10. Festivities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and tickets, $25 apiece, are available at the Modesto and Jamestown Harley Davidson shops or at eventbrite.com. Headlining the festival will be Tommy Castro and The Painkillers along with Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings, AC Myles and the John Clifton Blues Band.

The Escalon Community Center, 1055 Escalon Ave., will be the host site for the next gathering of the Good Time Accordion Club. The festivities are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 13 and will feature both music and a social time. The session starts at 7 p.m. and accordion fans and performers of all skill levels are welcome. Admission is $5 at the door. Special guest performer for the Sept. 13 gathering will be Roberto Rosa. For more information, contact Karl Wucherer at 209-556-3105.

The local REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club gathers for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 13. Golden Agers weekly dances are open to those 50 and older from throughout the Central Valley at the Riverbank Community Center. Doors open Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; the center is at 3600 Santa Fe St., and first time guests are admitted free. The annual membership fee is $12 and each Wednesday members pay $5 and non-members can enjoy a few hours of music and dancing for $6.

Sail to Recovery will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 23; it’s a program of the local American Veterans First organization. Sail to Recovery will run from noon to 5 p.m. at the Stockton Sailing Club, 4980 Buckley Cove Way in Stockton. Registration is being accepted now and volunteers with boats are being sought; you can volunteer your boat and register as a skipper.
