Story Time is offered each Monday morning at the Riverbank Library, 10:30 a.m., continuing until March 28. The public is invited to receive free tax preparation assistance from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. VITA volunteers are trained by the IRS. Call the library at (209) 869-7008 to reserve a spot, as space is limited. The last day for tax preparation at the Riverbank Library will be April 6. The library is at 3442 Santa Fe St. in Riverbank. Tai Chi Ch’uan martial art classes will be available on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe St. Session one began on March 22 and runs through May 10 and the second session is from May 17 through July 29. Adults are only $5 per day. Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art which is a relaxing yet empowering exercise, a dance and moving meditation. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, and flat shoes are recommended. Also bring water. All participants must sign a release of liability prior to the first class. Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 30. Curves International, Inc., one of the largest chains of fitness centers for women in the world, is hosting its 2016 Curves Food Drive through Saturday, March 26 at participating Curves centers across the U.S. and Canada, including the site in neighboring Oakdale. Curves is inviting both non-members and members to take part in the Food Drive by bringing in a bag of non-perishable food or a monetary contribution of at least $30 to be donated to a local community food bank. All new members who make a food or monetary donation will receive a $0 enrollment fee when joining selected Curves locations.

The March Oakdale Women’s Club meeting was a fantastic success. Guest speaker Jaydeen Vicente, gave a presentation on Astro Foundation, Inc. Their mission is to save the lives of homeless animals by rescue and placing them into foster homes until they find homes for these animals. The April meeting will be at the Oakdale Country Club at noon on Tuesday, April 5. The menu is Turkey Pecan Croissant w/sliced fruit, and chocolate mousse for dessert. If you would prefer, you could order a salad instead. There are three choices for your salad. ... Oriental salad, Cobb salad, or Spinach with strawberries salad but you must call Elaine Hogg at 209-322-3338 to get your reservation in to her. The April program is Neighborhood Watch by Mike Hancock. All women of the area are invited even if they are not a member; they can come as a guest.

The Modesto Garden Club is now accepting applications for six $1500 scholarships from eligible high school seniors and college students. Completed applications packets are due by April 6. Interested students may email gardenscholarship@gmail.com for application information and forms.

This spring the Columbia College Foundation will host the 40th Annual Columbia Wine Tasting – a benefit event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 to support the Columbia College Hospitality Management Program. This is the first year the Columbia Wine Tasting will be featured on a Saturday. Reservations can be purchased online for $55 per person in advance or $60 per person at the event as available. Attendees receive a complimentary souvenir wine glass and wine tastings from participating wineries and food vendors.
