An ad hoc committee of Riverbank High School alumni began preparations last week for a celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary year. The campus was established in 1967.
The meeting focused on setting up events around the upcoming football Homecoming Celebration, which is set for Friday, Sept. 22.
Still in the early planning stages, but with the game just five weeks away, the group is considering celebrating over several days.
Thursday night, before the game, could be an Alumni Night in downtown Riverbank. That event might center around Pizza Plus, the Plaza del Rio Park and possibly the Riverbank Historical Museum near city hall, envisioned as a kind of block party.
They’re also considering adding alumni and honorees to the traditional Homecoming Parade through downtown after school that Friday. Then possibly a reception welcoming alumni to the Homecoming game itself, held in the Fauria Gym before the varsity game that night. They hope to have appetizers, cake and a walk down memory lane.
Former teacher and RHS staff member Stacy Riggs Bauer, class of ‘86, helped organize the first meeting last week, and said there could be a pre-game show which features the alumni, the RHS Winterguard and an “Olympic-style walk around the track, honoring five decades of excellence at Riverbank High School.”
She said the next committee meeting would be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23. She invited any alumni to come be part of the preparations and the event itself.
