RHS Alumni Celebrate 50 Years This Week
Bruin Sign
Riverbank High School alumni returning to campus this week to celebrate the 50th anniversary school year might be surprised to see the new version of the Bruin sign there. Theyll be greeted with the change in the Administration building courtyard, where Principal Dr. Sean Richeys secretary, Suzy Andalon, shows off the new design. She said the changes were designed by students of RHS art teacher Holly Cortez. The new style contrasts sharply with the former sign, inset, which adorned the campus for many years.

Declaring “50 Looks Good on Us,” an alumni committee of Riverbank High School former students has organized an event that parallels the RHS Homecoming celebration this week.

The group of local grads, many of whom are on staff at local schools, put together a downtown “Brew ‘n’ Bear Crawl” that is scheduled for Thursday evening, with the celebration continuing with participation at the Homecoming Game on Friday night, Sept. 22.

The ‘Crawl’ will feature both live music and that provided by a DJ on the Plaza del Rio Park stage at Third and Santa Fe streets, with participation by Pizza Plus and the Red Carpet Lounge, which will have alumni specials, along with a taco truck for even more food. The Riverbank Historical Museum volunteers will open the facility Thursday evening for alumni access to special RHS exhibits, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

An after-party is set to begin at 9 p.m. at the 108 Sports Lounge on Atchison Street, with special alumni prices offered.

The committee notes that the 50th anniversary event, with its adult beverages offered, is neither affiliated with nor sponsored by the Riverbank Unified School District.

Alumni plan to participate in the Homecoming Parade on Friday afternoon, and, after a reception at the Fauria Gym during the JV football game, they’re expected to join in before and during the varsity football game Friday night.

Another after-party is planned at 108 Sports Lounge again Friday after the game.

The alumni group is using the Homecoming Week festivities to also celebrate the 50th anniversary of RHS, which opened for the 1967-68 school year.
