An early morning crash on Tuesday, Oct. 4 resulted in the death of a Riverbank man and left a Winton man with injuries.
The California Highway Patrol investigated and said the crash occurred about 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 on Bledsoe Road, south of Keyes Road near Denair.
Adolfo Cortes-Verduzco, 47, of Riverbank was identified as the fatal victim.
According to the CHP, Cortes-Verduzco was driving a 1990 Toyota southbound on Bledsoe Road south of Keyes Road at or below the maximum speed limit of 55 mph. A northbound vehicle, driver by Jose Godoy Alvarez, was estimated at going between 60 and 65 mph and had passed traffic, steering his vehicle to the right to re-enter the northbound lane of Bledsoe Road. Authorities said Alvarez lost control of his vehicle, a 2002 Dodge, as he crested the top of a hill on the roadway and collided with the Toyota. Both vehicles came to rest on the west shoulder of Bledsoe Road. Cortes-Verduzco was wearing his lap/shoulder safety restraint, but the CHP report indicated that due to the force of the impact, he was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alvarez reportedly suffered relatively minor injuries and was taken to Emanuel Medical Center for treatment.
DUI was not a factor in the collision, according to the CHP report.
