Riverbank Salutes Heroes In Memorial Day Service

Riverbank Mayor Richard O’Brien and the Riverbank City Council will honor those men and women who have died while serving in the Armed Forces with special recognition on Memorial Day.

O’Brien pointed out that, for most, Memorial Day means warm weather, barbecues and the beach, but he said that ‘memorial’ is there for a reason. He is inviting residents, especially active duty military, veterans and their families to participate in a Memorial Day Service at the War Memorial Wall in front of the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe later this month.

“Those who serve are encouraged to participate as an honor guard and flag tender,” O’Brien said. “We invite the community to help us honor those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom.”

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 30.

O’Brien asks that RSVPs be directed to Luanne Bain at Riverbank City Hall North, 6707 Third St., Suite A; or call 863-7122.
