For Riverbank Unified School District students the summer is coming to an end and the first day of school is right around the corner. Classes are set to resume on Wednesday, Aug. 9 for the 2017-18 school year.

“I’m excited to begin this school year,” stated Superintendent Dr. Daryl Camp. “There are kindergarten students from the class of 2030 starting with us next Wednesday. Our staff is ready to provide and guide our students through a great school year.”

The before-school activities kicked off this week with Link Crew Day held on Monday for all freshmen attending Riverbank High School with an orientation in the Fauria Gym. On Tuesday, the high school also hosted Bruin Day where students could pick up gym clothes, schedules, get locker assignments and find their classes on campus, all items designed to help them begin the school year.

Cardozo Middle School has scheduled its Round-Up on Friday, Aug. 4 in the cafeteria from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Mesa Verde Elementary will have a new principal, Kim Ott, for the 2017-18 school year.

“She brings a wealth of experience to Riverbank after serving in San Joaquin County for a number of years,” Camp said.

Meanwhile, Greg Diaz has been promoted to the assistant principal position at Cardozo Middle School.

The District will host an employee recognition program and luncheon on Monday, Aug. 7 in the Fauria Gym for all staff from 8:30 a.m. until noon kicking off the new school year. For the third year the District will recognize those that have had 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service with RUSD.

“I’m fortunate to be able to work with such a dedicated group of educators,” said Camp.
