Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 3.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.69/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.28/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Modesto during the past week, prices Sunday were 65.5 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 8.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 0.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 54.3 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on Feb. 27 in Modesto have ranged widely over the last five years: $2.04/gallon in 2016, $2.91 in 2015, $3.64 in 2014, $4.06 in 2013 and $4.16/gallon in 2012.
Areas near Modesto and their current gas price climate include: Stockton - $2.75/gallon, up 2.5 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.73; Oakland - $2.91, up 4.4 cents per gallon; and San Jose - $2.94, up 5.2 cents from last week’s $2.89/gallon.
“With refinery maintenance and turnarounds beginning across the country, we’ll likely see a draw down on winter gasoline stocks, leading the national average to rise in the week ahead,” said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst.
