The Riverbank Unified School District recognized the Stanislaus County Office of Education 2017-18 Silver Medal Winners at its Dec. 5 school board meeting.

The following students were silver medal winners: Katie Alvarez, fourth grade, California Avenue Elementary; Christian Pineda, fifth grade, Mesa Verde Elementary; Jazmin Jimenez, sixth grade, Riverbank Language Academy; Allysa Baker, seventh grade, Cardozo Middle School; Jordan Velasco, seventh grade, Riverbank Language Academy; William Gonzalez, eighth grade, Cardozo Middle School; and Bianca Escutia, eighth grade, Riverbank Language Academy. The finalists were Navjyot Narula, fifth grade, California Avenue Elementary and Selene Navarro, sixth grade, Cardozo Middle School.

”It’s great to see that our students continue to experience success in this area of literacy,” stated RUSD Superintendent Dr. Daryl Camp. “As they continue to develop in writing, speaking, listening and reading comprehension, they will be ready for college and the 21st century job market.”

The Junior High Spelling Bee competition was held in November where 40 students from 23 schools competed. Retired educator Harry Bakker served as the Spelling Master and 23 volunteers served as proctors.
