Last week saw the return of students to the campuses of Riverbank Unified School District and those of the Sylvan School District.

High school students who live in the Sylvan District area, southwest Riverbank, go to class at campuses of Modesto City Schools, which started class this past Monday.

RUSD classes started on Wednesday, Aug. 9, and Sylvan schools started sessions the next day.

The campuses in Riverbank were expecting to be busy as school resumed last week.

Officials said they were expecting about 526 students at Cardozo Middle School, 460 at California Avenue Elementary, about 460 also at Mesa Verde Elementary and almost 800 on the Riverbank High School campus.

RHS officials noted the incoming freshman class was expected to end up around 250 students, the largest incoming class in recent times. By comparison, the 2017 graduating class numbered about 165.

New school year activities on the Riverbank High campus include a Back-to-School night for parents tomorrow, Aug. 17 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and a Back-to-School dance the next evening for students, Aug. 18, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., in the Bruin Gym. RHS will see a Back to School rally schedule on Friday, as well.

BTS nights were scheduled for last night, on both the Mesa Verde and California Avenue School sites beginning at 6 p.m. The BTS for Riverbank Language Academy is set for tonight, Aug. 16, also at 6 p.m.
