Assemblymember Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) was honored earlier this month with the Golden Apple Award by California Parents for Public Virtual Education, a volunteer parent organization which seeks to protect student access to online education, a quality curriculum, academic accountability and stable funding for public virtual and blended-learning charter schools.

“Each year, California Parents for Public Virtual Education recognizes policy-makers here in Sacramento for their dedication and commitment to parent choice and public online education,” said Virginia Shemansky, Board Member of California Parents for Public Virtual Education. “We are pleased to bestow the Golden Apple Award to Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen. She understands that parents deserve the right to choose what’s best for their students and to protect access to a quality, public virtual education in our state.”

Olsen said “I am honored to receive this award, and I remain committed to ensuring that the unique needs of every child will be met by paving the way for broader and more robust choices in education.”

Olsen has been honored with several prestigious awards from top education advocacy groups in California. In 2014, Olsen received the Literacy Award from the California Reading Association, and in 2015, she was honored with the Friend of Education Award from the Association of California School Administrators and the Hart Vision Award from the California Charter School Association.
